The HU are the pioneers of Hunnu Rock, a Mongolian metal quartet who fuse horsehead fiddles, throat singing, and thundering riffs into a sound entirely their own. Formed in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, they’ve racked up nearly 900 million streams and landed spots on Netflix’s One Piece soundtrack, the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game, and a personal invitation from Metallica to cover “Through the Never” on The Metallica Blacklist album. They’ve shared festival bills with Elton John and St. Vincent, supported Iron Maiden across North America, played Glastonbury, and became the first-ever rock band honored with UNESCO’s “Artist For Peace” award. And here’s the thing that makes it all hit different live: every lyric is sung entirely in Mongolian, a deliberate choice frontman Gala describes as a way of sharing his culture rather than diluting it for a global audience. Their upcoming brand-new album, HUN, dives deeper into the lore and legend of Mongolia, weaving traditional chants and instrumentation into some of the heaviest, most anthemic tracks they’ve ever written.

SKÁLD, the French neofolk band builds haunting, ancient-sounding songs from Nordic fiddles, harps, lyres, horns, and throat singing, layering three lead vocalists into arrangements that shift between fierce solo chants and full-choir intensity. Their sound draws on Skaldic poetry and Old Norse mythology, turning every track into something between a ritual and a folk tale, catchy enough to pull you in, eerie enough to stay with you after. Their upcoming album, Ørlǫg, out September 2026, is a deep dive into fate, origin myths, and the old Norse concept of destiny: ten songs moving from shamanic dreamscapes to Asgard’s edge to the primordial collision of fire and ice. It’s a striking, atmospheric world that’s earned SKÁLD their place as a staple of the neofolk scene, proving that even sung in an unfamiliar tongue, the music still lands somewhere deep.
