About
Intervals exist as the unbound and unapologetic creative expression of Aaron Marshall. The progressive guitar rock faithful revere Marshall for his virtuoso chops and melodic prowess in equal measure. His distinctive character and musical personality shine throughout the heady, catchy, and transcendent instrumental compositions found across the ever-growing catalog of Intervals albums.
The music is a window into the Toronto, Ontario, guitaristโs mind, body, and soul. Songs like โLibra,โ โ5-HTP,โ โBelvedere,โ โIโm Awake,โ and โmnemonicโ rank among the most popular in the genre. Metal Injection describes Intervals as โcatchy-as-hell shred.โ Sonic Perspectives declared the bandโs fourth album, 2020โs Circadian, โstrikes the perfect balance between shred, songwriting, and melody.โ
A trio of gifted touring and recording musicians surround Marshall as they collectively share Intervalsโ songs with the world: drummer Nathan Bulla, bassist Jacob Mansky, and guitarist Travis Levrier. They consistently stun audiences, including on celebrated treks with SPIRITBOX, TESSERACT, ANIMAL AS LEADERS, POLYPHIA, PERIPHERY, PROTEST THE HERO, and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME.
The earliest Intervals offerings, including two EPs and 2014โs full-length debut, A Voice Within (the sole album with lead vocals), were decidedly heavy and aggressive. Heralded by MetalSucks as โfantasticโ and โlacking virtually nothing,โ 2015โs The Shape of Colour ventured in a new direction. Intervals’ fourth album was appropriately titled The Way Forward. โEmploying many of the same techniques as technical progressive metal but in a major-key, upbeat framework has been Intervalsโ calling card,โ wrote Metal Hammer. โ[The Way Forward] is a purer distillation of [Marshallโs] aim.โ
Circadian marked Intervalsโ first collaboration with Sam Guiana (SILVERSTEIN, NECK DEEP, HOLDING ABSENCE). memory palace brilliantly celebrates the best of Intervalsโ past, present, and future. The album is diverse, uplifting, and crushingly heavy. Also produced by Guaiana, memory palace includes collaborations with KOAN Sound (โneurogenesisโ), J3PO (โgalaxy brainโ), and OBLVYN (โlacunaโ).
Fiercely independent and precision-focused but never lacking in uplifting vibe and fun, Intervals continues to grow from Marshallโs strong roots in authenticity, instinct, and trusting oneโs gut.
