About
She undoubtedly made music history: shortly before her death at the age of 27, 55 years ago, Janis Joplin stormed the rock stages of the world and cemented her place as one of the greatest blues singers of her time. At the same time, an American band was shaping the global music scene—Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR).
Creedence Clearwater Revival created the soundtrack of the 1970s. Many of their songs, which remain iconic to this day, were penned by the band. A number of them are featured on the seminal album Cosmo’s Factory, which the current tour is dedicated to. Released in July 1970, it was one of six albums the band put out within just two years: Travelin’ Band, Lookin’ Out My Back Door, Run Through The Jungle, Up Around the Bend, Who’ll Stop The Rain, and I Heard It Through The Grapevine. CCR’s songs are ingrained in the DNA of every rock fan. The British tribute band Creedence Clearwater Review brings the sound of that era authentically to life on stage.
Maggie Mackenthun sounds like Janis Joplin. The Scottish singer, who lives in Cologne, performs with her band Kozmic Blue in a stage retrospective of the Sixties, paying special tribute to Joplin. Me and Bobby McGee, Piece of My Heart, Cry Baby—all of these iconic gems recorded by the blues powerhouse during her short career are part of Mackenthun and her band’s repertoire.
